​What: Weekly online debate classes with the American Debate League (ADL). Students will build argumentation, research, and public-speaking skills and may qualify to participate in tournaments throughout the year.
Who: TAG 4th–8th graders only

• If your student is enrolled in YMCA on debate days, please note: YMCA cannot accommodate debate studentsduring class time. Families must arrange for students to log in from home or another quiet location.

When (by grade):

• 4th Grade: Fridays, 4:00–5:30 PM — starts 9/26/2025
• 5th Grade: Fridays, 4:00–5:30 PM — starts 9/26/2025
• 6th Grade: Fridays, 4:00–5:30 PM — starts 9/26/2025
• 7th Grade: Wednesdays, 4:00–5:30 PM — starts 10/01/2025
• 8th Grade: Wednesdays, 4:00–5:30 PM — starts 10/01/2025
  22 weekly classes run through May.

Where: Online (Zoom)
Attendance & Tournaments:

• Class attendance is tracked by ADL and helps determine tournament selection.
• Expect 5–6 optional in-person tournaments on select Saturdays (8:00 AM–5:00 PM), typically in Queens/Bronx. Transportation not provided. Each debater must be accompanied by a guardian (not a drop-off event).

Dear TAG Families,

We urge you to consider taking on a leadership position for next year's Parent Teacher Association Executive Board or School Leadership Team. We need parents in these vital roles to help our school continue its tradition of academic and social excellence and enrichment, to build community, and to make TAG a place where all of our children can thrive. 

All parents and guardians of TAG students (except TAG employees) are eligible to serve, and all parents of students attending TAG in the 2024-2025 school year are eligible to vote in this election.

Elections will take place during the PTA meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. This meeting will be held by video conference.

Executive board positions for the Talented & Gifted School For Young Scholars Parent Teacher Association for the 2025-2026 school year are described briefly below. All executive board offices can be held together with co-officers, but you must run together as a slate in order to serve together.

Mandatory Officers

• President (run executive board meetings, coordinate with the PTA board, engage with the TAG community)
• Recording Secretary (handle meeting/Zoom logistics, keep minutes)
• Treasurer (handle finances, budget, spend)
  
  

Non-Mandatory Officers

• Budget VP (help Treasurer, focus on finances)
• Enrichment VP (did someone say after-school and extracurricular programming?!) 
• Family Engagement VP (plan fun community events – e.g., potluck, ice skating, coffee meet-and-greets)
• Fundraising VP (raise money for our kids! Typically includes coordinating book fairs, picture days, TAG swag, and gala/auction)
• Grants VP (identify and apply for funds; work with admin and other schools in our building as needed; connect with elected officials and other representatives!)
• Information Technology VP (manage the PTA website, info/data management and organization)
• Vice President at Large (step in to help the officers as needed!)

All officers are expected to attend a monthly executive board meeting (remote) and hold a monthly meeting for their respective committees as applicable (also remote.)

We will also be electing 2 positions to the School Leadership Team (SLT). The SLT is a body made up of school administrators, teachers, and parents which develops TAG’s educational policies and ensures there are resources to support those policies. SLT meets monthly throughout the academic year to set academic and social goals for the school.

At the June 17 meeting, all nominees will get a brief chance to address attendees before voting takes place. 

• You must attend to vote!
• Following elections for the executive board, attendees will also vote for open positions on the School Leadership Team
• To nominate yourself or another parent for any of these positions, use the Nomination form (refer to the link in the Jupiter Ed message or use the QR code on the notice posted to the PTA bulletin board at school). All Nominations should include the name, contact email and phone number of the nominee. Please submit your nominations on or before Sunday, June 1. Candidates running as co-officers must notify the Nominating Committee at the time of the nomination.

• Candidates interested in more than one position may indicate so in their nominating form. 

After nomination:

• Nominated candidates will be confirmed by this committee to ensure interest/willingness to serve.
• Confirmed candidates will be added to the ballots.  
• We will also accept floor nominations at the June 17 meeting.

You are invited to sponsor a gift or treat to all the scholars in your child’s class for the HOLIDAY TAG SWAG BAG! Pick from a selection of holiday inspired TAG SWAG, then add an OPTIONAL customized GIFT TAG with your message of holiday cheer.

Due to the limited space and to prevent duplicates in the bag, we ask for ONE FAMILY sponsor per TREAT. If all items are sold out, more items may be added before the deadline if space permits. If you have more than one child, pick one class
to sponsor to allow other parents the opportunity to participate. Before the final deadline check in again to see if any other items are available.

Please note: if you have students in multiple classes/grades, you may purchase multiple items (in other words, please limit
to one purchase per scholar).

On Thursday, December 19th a SWAG BAG will be delivered to each scholar in the class stuffed with your sponsored treats and gifts.
