April 15, 2018
Dear Parents,
As many of you were unable to attend the General PTA meeting on April 10th, we would like use this opportunity to update everyone on an important issue impacting our PTA's tax exemption status.
In the month of March, the PTA Executive Board became aware that the PTA (a 501(c)(3) organization) had lost its tax-exempt status, effective Nov 15th, 2017. We are actively working with a tax accountant to resolve this situation as soon as possible and fully reinstate our 501(c)(3) status. We have spoken with IRS representatives about this issue and we are confident the reinstatement for the 2018 year will occur, thus not negatively impacting donations received in 2018. In addition, we will be applying to have the 501(c)(3) status retroactively reinstated to Nov 15th, 2017 and have been told that the retroactive reinstatement is a likely outcome.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and we will provide you with updates at the upcoming General PTA meetings on the progress of our filing, our reinstatement status and the costs associated with it. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Nina Reiniger & Anand Raghunath
