TAG PTA Overview
Every parent, guardian, and teacher of a student attending TAG is automatically a member of the PTA. At TAG, we believe parents are their children's first teachers and that parent involvement is essential to a child's academic success. The TAG PTA recognizes the importance of parents and teachers working together to improve the lives of our children. Through the PTA, parents and teachers work collaboratively to ensure quality, standards-based instruction, while drawing a special significance from the diversity of our school community. Our mission is to promote open communication and understanding between parents and staff at TAG, and to provide resources to support the school in offering outstanding curricular and enrichment opportunities for our students. To make the most of our students’ education at TAG we urge each parent to get involved! The more involved parents we have, the more opportunities we can collectively provide for our students. Active members have been a valuable resource for starting and maintaining projects and programs that benefit our children.
For example, the PTA has been instrumental in funding the upgrade of computers in the computer lab, integrating chess instruction in the kindergarten and first grade curriculum as well as an after-school program for the entire school, organizing “Coffee & Tea With the Principal” monthly meetings, holding teacher/ student basketball games, hosting the Annual Silent Auction, running Scholastic Book Fairs, and many other activities. Much of this is accomplished through parents’ payment of PTA dues.
TAG PTA general meetings are held monthly, typically on the first Tuesday at 6:00 PM, in the school’s cafeteria. Attendance at TAG PTA general meetings is open to all. The meetings provide a forum for sharing information on important school issues, connecting with other parents at the school, and engaging in a productive dialogue on how best to serve the students at TAG. While the TAG PTA communicates with parents through emails, flyers and a monthly newsletter, we believe in-person participation at PTA meetings is an invaluable way of gathering information and connecting with the school. We hope to see you at these meetings.
The schedule for general meetings, as well as schedules for other important events, can be found on the PTA Calendar on the front page of this website.
