Thank you for all the parents who took the time to fill out our survey. We received about 100 responses and please find the summary survey results below. We would like to highlight our responses to parents' concerns in Question 9, where parents provided valuable inputs into certain areas where PTA can improve upon:
COMMUNICATION:
We believe the communication is a vital issue for an efficient and functional PTA. The best way to stay informed and learn about our program is to be in your class parent email list. If you don’t know who your class parent is please email [email protected] . Please remember that class parents maintain their contact list based on our Parent Directory. Sign up here: http://www.tagscholarspta.org/parent-participation.html/#PTASignup . And please visit our website regularly, http://www.tagscholarspta.org/
PTA MEETINGS:
All parents are welcome to our PTA meetings, and we understand that not all can make it to an evening meeting. In the future there will be morning meetings as well. Minutes are regularly posted here: http://www.tagscholarspta.org/pta-meeting-minutes.html . We normally distribute the agenda at the meeting, but we will try to communicate at least the topics of discussion seven days before. As for voting, elections need to be advertised with 10 days notice. We do not have a similar rule for amending the budget, but we strongly suggest to communicate all proposed amendments to [email protected] at least seven days before, to give all parents time to review the proposal. We are also working on allowing phone in meetings. Voting by proxy is not allowed according to our bylaws, and the rules for phone in voting are the following: ……
BUDGET:
All funds raised during the year 2017-18 are budgeted for the following year, 2018-19. The process for shaping the budget starts in November/December and continues until the spring. In the last spring the final budget is voted. It Is a long process that involves the budget committee, the PTA board, the school administration and finally the whole parent body. We invite all parents who are interested to participate to this process by attending our budget committee meetings, see calendar here: http://www.tagscholarspta.org/event-calendar.html . We also strongly suggest to communicate all proposed amendments to [email protected] at least seven days before, to give all parents time to review the proposal.
AFTERSCHOOL ENRICHMENT:
YMCA offers afterschool for K-8th free of charge. In addition our PTA offers several enrichment classes, for free or for a very competitive price. If your child already attends the YMCA program in grades K-5th, then he/she can only register to one enrichment class during the week. Please note that these enrichment classes do not substitute the YMCA afterschool program. They start in October because it takes time to secure space in the school and to negotiate with a vendor. Also we don’t offer enrichment classes on Mondays and Tuesdays because of space constraints. If you are looking for a full time afterschool enrichment program, then the classes offered by the PTA are not the solution.
ANY OTHER COMMENT ABOUT IN SCHOOL CURRICULUM, DISCIPLINE OR SCHEDULING:
Please remember that any curriculum or scheduling question, or any discipline issue needs to be addressed to the Administration team and not to the PTA.
